Take a 90 minute journey through the history of Jazz Music in New Orleans dating back thousands of years to the Indigenous Indian tribes and their effect on the enslaved people who came over in the 1700s. Learn how Louis Armstrong shaped the face of New Orleans Jazz. Find out why legendary clarinetist Sidney Bechet holds the distinction of being amongst an elite group of “otherworldly” musical figures. See how Storyville and The Treme became important destinations for some of the most influential musicians of our city. You’ll hear rare musical clips from some of the artists who are spotlighted on the tour. And who knows? Your tour guide may even serenade you with some live trumpet licks!The Jazz Tour offers a shaded, leisurely stroll through Armstrong Park with benches aligning the tour route. French Quarter Walking Tours

This two-hour walking tour takes you through the historic French Quarter where culture, music, food, architecture and even some ghostly galivanting combine to bring you a unique experience seldom seen in other modern day cities. We’ll present an historical timeline that starts back in the eighteenth century when Jean Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville first set foot here on the banks of the Mississippi and claimed this colony in the name of France. We’ll see how the Spanish influence molded the French Quarter until the Americans took over in 1803 forming a veritable gumbo of culture that affects all aspects of our city, including our music and food. We’ll talk about the tragedy of the enslaved and how voodoo still exists in the city.This tour is a mildly strenuous walk through the French Quarter that includes narrow sidewalks and some shade. A break is provided midway through the tour.Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays ONLY.

Glen Weiss is a certified New Orleans tour guide (License # 25LTG-12341) with forty years of experience bringing history to life.His career began in Nashville, Tennessee with Grayline Tours, where he led visitors through the homes of country music legends, along with plantation excursions and trips to Andrew Jackson's Hermitage.After retiring and settling in New Orleans, the city's irresistible pull drew him back to the work he loves.Today Glen volunteers with the Friends of the Cabildo and holds membership in the Tour Guides Association of Greater New Orleans.A jazz trumpet player himself, he brings a genuine musician's reverence to every story he tells about New Orleans jazz culture.
